Well folks, I've decided to get back on the horse.
If you followed my first blog, The Segar Wedding, then you witnessed my first ever serious attempt at weight loss. Just to give y'all a recap:
I was walking a 5K every day, on average, and using my Fitbit to track and beat goals I had set in place. I recorded measurements, logged my calorie intake, and really became obsessed (in a good way) with fitness.
Here's where I failed:
If you followed my first blog, The Segar Wedding, then you witnessed my first ever serious attempt at weight loss. Just to give y'all a recap:
I was walking a 5K every day, on average, and using my Fitbit to track and beat goals I had set in place. I recorded measurements, logged my calorie intake, and really became obsessed (in a good way) with fitness.
Here's where I failed:
- I let distractions from the "outside world" stop me from maintaining my momentum, when I would've benefited more from my workouts and been able to better process any new stresses that were soon to come.
- I started out too strong. A 5K every day for a person who was otherwise a couch potato was too much too soon. Slow and steady wins the race, and I got burned out after a couple of short months.
- I focused too much on numbers. I had goals in mind that I wanted to reach each and every day. There came a time when I would be trying so hard to reach a certain number of steps, that I was merely going through the motions of working out and not taking any steps with purpose. This caused me to start dreading working out.
- Setting realistic goals. I'm just going to make an effort to get some form of exercise in every day and I'm going to be happy with what I get done. I've been doing a lot of reading and studying on the Law of Attraction. < I owe my sanity to this page in particular. Part of what I've realized is that I have to put a positive spin on everything around me, which in turn will create a more positive life for myself. If I congratulate myself on walking 20 minutes one day, that's a lot better than laying in bed playing games on my phone. That 20 minutes brings me that much closer to a healthier and happier life. I should be happy that I'm doing what I can do, that way I'm more inclined to keep going and not feel so obligated to fake it when I'm not reaching certain goals.
- Cutting back on the basics. I'm just an average chubby person, trying to get in better shape. If I want these changes to be more permanent, I need to simplify my goals. Keeping simplicity in mind, I'll only be cutting out the following THREE items for now:
- SODA
- EXTRA SUGAR (in coffee, cereals, etc.)
- FRIED FOODS
- Not making this blog about fitness. If it's all I think about, it'll consume me and before you know it, I'll be putting off my daily chores and falling into the same patterns as before because I can't prioritize properly. I will not become obsessed this time around. This isn't a fitness blog. This is a blog about positive thinking, creativity, and the many thoughts that cross my mind that I feel need to be shared with the world. I am not my fitness goals.
Now, none of this post is to insinuate that tracking, counting, and fiercely trying to reach weight loss goals is at all a bad thing. It's just never worked for me. What I'm trying to do is to incorporate a little bit of exercise in my daily life without turning my world upside down, which in turn will cause me to quit again.
